June 3rd. North West Regional Road Race Championship.

    I spoke to Will on sunday night who sounded very tired after his day out.  The race was at Smithfields, Carlisle and there was a good turn out from the club.  In the E,1,2/138km race we had James Williamson, Will Wright, Nick Shaugnessy, Mark Burton, Emanuel Guitton and Chris Siepen.  Dave Genders rode the 3,4/100km event whilst Jimmy Froggatt did an excellent job at the feed handing bottles and consoling the dashed high hopes of the day.

    Despite some brave talk on Saturday, Nick was first to go on the lumpy part of the course.  Will found the going tough but with a little encouragement from Dave williams managed to put in some big turns working for our star rider, James Williamson.  Chris Siepen also worked tirelessly but with around 20km to go both Will and Chris were spent forces and on route back to the changing rooms. 

    Mark Lovatt eventually won the race with our man Williamson coming over the line in 4th place.  Mark Burton and Mani Guitton both finished in 22nd and 24th place.

    Dave Genders came close in the supporting event but couldn't quite close the gap and had to settle for 2nd place (see picture).

    The race was prommoted by Border City Wheelers of Carlisle.
