June 3rd, National 25 mile championship.

The National Championship 25 mile race is probably the most sought after and well turned out time trial in this country.  It attracts all of the specialist testers as well as the road men and track riders looking to steal the prestigious title from the favourites.  Just to get onto the start sheet requires a good set of legs and previous fast times.

The course at bickerstaffe uses some of the roads that we have previously used on our Southport run.  They are not what you would call fast smooth surfaces and to see a winning time slide under 50 minutes is awsome.  Our best rider was Tristan Barnes who clocked 54 minutes and 33 seconds which gave him 22nd place.  That might at first reading appear well down in the results but a similar performance from Tristan in most other events would almost certainly secure a win.  22nd in an event as prestigious as the National 25 interperates literally into being the 22nd fastest 25 rider in the country.  That's a fine result for Tristan to be proud of and one that saw him top of the leader board for a little while during the event.

A little further down the field in 68th position was Mr TT himself.  Nigel Wood clocked a respectable 58 minutes 30 seconds.  Nice one Nigel.
