Wills Wheels Club Do 2010

The annual gathering of Wills Wheels was the usual mixture of copious amounts of red wine and trepidation who had won the cabbage? Disappointingly Will had decided not to award the cabbage this year as the competition for this highly cherished award was just so competitive Will couldn`t afford enough cabbages. However the less highly contested awards of road race champion, time trial champion and best all rounder were all awarded.

Following the exceptionally good meal provided  by the Krobar Neil King did the honours and presented the awards, Neil got a bit carried away thinking he was "guest of honour" as apparently one had been advertised on the website.

First award was the time trial championship which for the first time was awarded jointly to Harvey and Robin for there efforts in the 2 up ten which saw them, ride out, ride it and ride home, now that`s commitment.

The road race championship went to Jason Pickford who has flown the clubs colours all over the north west this season gaining plenty of points and more importantly a win on Bickerstaffe.

The best all rounder went to a thin bloke this year which i`m not sure is in the rules but Bob Shaw was a very deserved winner of the much cherished Campag Super Record Track Hub.

For the first time a raffle was held to raise a few extra funds for the club to organise extra activities, with such delicacies of a vegetarian haggis and a tin of tuna on offer there were plenty of tickets sold although when i pulled my own ticket out first many in the room must have thought it was a fix. The bottles of wine and cycling books on offer were soon snapped up and then it was whose going to be left with the haggis. Sarah won it and i`m sure Will, will appreciate this microwaved delight in his lunchbox on Monday.

It was good to see everyone in "civvie clothes" and catch up with old friends and especially good was the new members who came along and joined in with the spirit of the evening. Next year there will be a prize for who can bring the most people along.

See you on the road sometime in 2010.
