Caves of Campanet, Mallorca.
I discovered the Caves of Campanet cafe about 10 miles outside of Puerto Pollensa, in 1997 and in those days it required considerable off road skills to get there as the lane that is about 6 miles long was full of craters. Happily on my return in 2008 European road funding had provided a lovely smooth road to it. The road through the valley is one of my favourites especially as after a short sharp climb it is almost all downhill, and even i manage to get it into the big ring. The scenery is stunning and there are some fantastic villas in amazing locations and apparently Wills Wheels purchased one after Hugh assuring me last year that the Wills Wheels team credit card could afford one. I wish! You follow the road until it turns sharp right and you turn left into the vast car park. Now you have to make the decision as to whether to drag your bike up the hillside or leave it at the bottom of the steps. I`d recommend the latter and taking a long lock. Next you need to hike up the steps to the fabulous terrace. The view is stunning across the valley and you could almost be in a picture of Provence.
There isn`t much in the way of food but they normally have danish pastries and good quality coffee and plenty of soft drinks and this been Spain San Miguel. This cafe isn`t about the food it`s about the location and i think you`ll be hard pushed to find any better located cafe and the sun definitely always shines here. It makes a fabulous rest day ride, is good for an early stop before heading into the mountains or a well earned afternoon stop before heading back down to the coast. Just beware of all the groups of cyclists that hurtle along this pleasant valley without a cafe stop in mind.
