The Galley, at the Marina near Worleston. Bottle of Shiraz anyone?
What a find this place is. Somewhere beyond Middlewich that doesn`t end up in Delamere Forest. Head for Church Minshull and keep going south on the B5074 towards Worleston, as you cross the Weaver way and the canal take the next left through the boat yard and then it opens up into a large marina. The cafe is housed in the red brick building on the left.
We were greeted warmly and it looked very promising when the only menu on the table was a wine list. Could we justify a bottle of Shiraz on a Saturday morning, Terrie nearly had me convinced but then it was a long ride home, so eventually we decided on poached eggs on toast. We were served quickly with piping hot homemade buttered toast with organic egg. Gorgeous. There was a full range of teas and coffee and plenty of lovely homemade cakes the Victoria Sponge was exceedingly good. The staff were two very welcoming older ladies who wanted to know where we had come from and wanted us to spread the word of there homely cooking. No problem there.
The Galley looks like it maybe a winner for the summer with a large terrace overlooking the marina which has plenty of tables and chairs just begging for the sunshine to come out tan those oh so white legs.
The facilities were amazing not just toilets but showers as well, these weren`t for bedraggled cyclists to smarten up before lunch but for the narrowboat owners bobbing up and down peacefully in the marina.
Just make sure you know the route home as Crewe town centre on a Saturday afternoon isn`t the best place to lead the clubrun through. But the railway station did look very nice.
