Whilst the rest of Wills Wheels took on one of Chris Riley`s epic rides around half of the UK, the other Riley`s ( no relation) headed out to Cheshire following a route that had been publicised in Cycling Active by Ron Spencer of the Warrington road club a former club of Terries. We were joined by Georgina Rowson again and headed from Wilmslow towards Tatton Park, where i tormented Terrie with a late shouted right turn to Rostherene and across to Bucklow Hill. We bimbled along in the wind with me confined to the back as i had fresh legs after working on Saturday. Eventually we headed into Lymm and then through to Grappenhall where we road across the cobbles in homage to the Tour of Flanders before turning towards Appleton Thorn and past the young offenders institute and into Arley Hall.

We`d debated as to whether we would be let in, in lycra but were greeted by a very helpful assistant who we eventually recognised as Caroline Fearon wife of Dave Fearon from the Weaver Valley who not only suggested where to leave the bikes but promised to keep an eye on them whilst we headed for the cafe/restaurant. Which is housed in the old banqueting hall. The menu isn`t very traditional but after a splendid parsnip soup for myself, Goats cheese tart for Terrie and beef sandwich for Georgina and several cups of coffee we headed outside having sussed out that there is a splendid terrace in the gardens for a summer day.

We then enjoyed a rip roaring tail wind back to Mobberley where we stopped for the first summer beer at the Bird in the Hand with Claire who had ridden a two up that morning and was fortifying herself with a well earned beer.
